Who we are ?

The Ricardo J. Barbosa Foundation Inc. was created in memory of Police Officer Ricardo J. Barbosa. He was a member of the 3rd Precinct in the Ironbound Section of Newark, New Jersey for 6 years. The last 4 years of his career he served as a Community/School Resource Officer. He enjoyed working with the community and especially interacting with the students. Since his passing his family learned even more about the selfless human he was, through all the stories the community shared about his work.

His family has pledged to work tirelessly to continue his legacy of service to others through acts of kindness.

Mission Statement

Community service

Ricardo found himself through service to others.

Some of Ricardo’s other work included providing back to school backpacks filled with basic supplies,  planning and executing numerous community events such as Summer Carnivals, Easter basket  and Eid Basket distributions, all possible through the support of his family, friends and business owners in the community. Ricardo also established a chess club at the local Boys and Girls Club where he taught the children how to play. Often times, Ricardo would use his own funds to feed the homeless and ensure that they had safe shelter. He also enjoyed connecting with At-Risk youth in the community to encourage them to focus on school and remain out of trouble. Reminding them often that they were seen and heard. He dedicated his life to the service of others. He shared his passion, his knowledge, his time, and his talents with everyone around him.

"2022 will always be a challenging year due to the loss of PO/CSO Ricardo J. Barbosa. Ricardo always dealt with our students with affection and care. As you read this message, remember his smile and the friendly approach he always conveyed to everyone. "A true friend is never truly gone. Their spirit lives on in the memories of those who loved them". Dear friend your memory will live on forever."
